My website is not showing yet — how long do DNS changes take?

Short answer: Most changes take a few minutes. Some can take up to 48 hours. Your website stays live while the change reaches everyone.

Steps

  1. Open your domain again. If it loads, you are done. If it does not, the

change may still be spreading.

  1. Wait 15 minutes and check again. Internet computers refresh their copies on

their own schedule. This is called DNS propagation.

  1. Check you typed the records exactly as we sent them. A small typing mistake

stops the domain working.

  1. Try a different connection, such as your mobile data. Your device or office

network may hold an old copy.

  1. If your domain still does not work after 48 hours, email support. Tell us

the domain, the records you added, and the time you added them.

  1. If your website worked before and now does not, email support straight away.

What to expect

Nameserver changes take the longest, up to 48 hours. Record changes (CNAME and TXT) are usually much faster. We check the records for you and tell you what we find. We do not ask you to change anything until we are sure. Most delays are not faults; DNS simply needs time.
